Pass an Economic Relief Package That Will Help the Most Vulnerable

As the impacts of COVID-19 escalate, urge Congress to protect the most vulnerable among us and to act in recognition that this pandemic is not just a health crisis--it is an economic, racial, and social justice issue as well. We can’t ignore the people and communities hit first and worst by the generations of inaction and discrimination built into our systems.

Join us in urging Congress to ensure Black and Brown communities and low-income communities are prioritized in any and all measures we take during this crisis.

Read the letter we delivered to Congress demanding that these communities be protected.

Dear Member of Congress:

COVID-19 has drastically altered the lives, immediate needs, and futures of the American people, especially those in communities of color that are disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and recession.

In order for our nation’s response to the pandemic to be truly comprehensive and equitable for all, we urge you to pass legislation that invests in community recovery, supports racial equity, and furthers restorative justice:

  • Extend paid sick and family leave
  • Extend the moratorium on evictions and utility shutoffs
  • Address housing instability and home safety.
  • Address the demands of frontline health workers.
  • Provide emergency funding of $39 billion to keep public transit running.
  • Provide dignity and safety for people who are incarcerated.
  • Issue direct relief payments.
  • Provide funding for state, local, and tribal governments to expand access to high speed broadband.
  • Provide relief to communities of color and low-income communities.
Ensure that any and all emergency COVID-19 relief — including medical aid, economic support, and business or policy changes — flow directly to and predominantly benefit vulnerable communities of color and low-income individuals.
