Safe & Just Michigan is looking forward to hosting the Michigan observation of the national Day of Empathy for the third year in a row. This national event, sponsored by Dream Corps JUSTICE, is designed to generate compassion for people involved in the justice system and their families, inform the public about aspects of our broken justice system, and build momentum to create a more accountable, equitable and effective system in its place.

All scheduled events will take place inside the Speaker's Library inside the Michigan State Capitol. The morning will start at 9 a.m. with a greeting and an opportunity to get to know other Day of Empathy participants.

Our panel discussions begin at 10:15 a.m. and will touch on many of these topics. They include:

10:15 a.m.: Voting rights for formerly incarcerated people, led by Nation Outside
11:15 a.m.: Bail reform
12:30 p.m.: Ending juvenile life without parole
1:30 p.m.: Special focus on incarcerated women, led by the American Friends Service Committee - Michigan Criminal Justice Program
