COVID-19 Help Pass Recovery for ALL of us

We are facing a worsening crisis and need Congress to act. On August 1, nearly 30 million workers lost their $600 per week unemployment supplement, which for millions was a lifeline. Freezes on evictions and utility shut-offs are expiring. And public transit workers and riders face worsening service cuts as transit agencies continue to lose millions of dollars weekly.

People across the country are worried about keeping a roof over their heads, the water running, and the lights on. They’re worried about how they'll get to work, grocery stores, or hospitals with transit funding near empty.

Congressional leaders need to hear from you! Send a message to demand:

Safe, reliable transit that protects workers & riders.

Direct relief payments that reach ALL low & moderate-income households.

A moratorium on evictions & utility shutoffs.

Action to preserve & protect the right to vote.

Extended paid sick & family medical leave to protect public health.

I’m contacting you today regarding the relief and economic stimulus bills that are currently being debated in response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis. I urge you to ensure that any final legislation passed by Congress includes provisions to fund safe and reliable public transportation, support economic stability and paid sick leave, and defend voting rights for all Americans.

As this crisis has caused major budgetary shortfalls that impact the ability of local and state governments to provide vital services, I urge you to ensure that public transportation remains solvent and operational by funding the $32 billion dollars that is needed to keep service safe and running. Public transportation services are not only essential for working Americans, but are also one of the lowest pollution mobility options. To keep people safe, it’s also essential that this legislation stop evictions, foreclosures, and utility shutoffs for struggling Americans during this crisis.

Millions of people have lost their jobs, face unsafe work conditions, or have to work even if they or a family member are sick. I urge you to ensure that this legislation includes provisions which ensure direct relief provisions reach ALL low and moderate-income households and protect public health by extending paid sick and family medical leave. And finally, our democracy is at stake – people should not have to choose between their health and voting. Congress must take action to preserve and protect the right to vote.
